With the start of each New Year come
the traditional well wishes for health,
happiness and your well-being for the
experiences each of us will enjoy
during the upcoming year, which is
2012. I will not stray from that
tradition and wish for each of you a
healthy and prosperous New Year. It,
too, is my wish that this year will be
filled with the fulfillment of the hopes
and wishes you are looking for as the
year progresses, also hoping you keep
those New Year’s Resolutions.
In reviewing this past year, the Commission was
successful in supporting issues, passing new
Resolutions and Ordinances, or taking positions on
issues, on your behalf, that have resulted in our City’s
betterment. Some examples are:
-
Requested the State Legislature to repeal or
amend the State statute to allow Cities to establish its
laws and rules that govern firearms and ammunition.
This Commission felt that the residents of our City
should determine, by referendum vote, whether we
should have the ability to regulate who can carry
firearms in the publicly owned places of
this City.
-
Provided for the various Committees
and Boards to make presentations to the
Commission on their progress of
programs and plans for the City. This
gives an opportunity for members of our
community to hear and see “first hand”
how ideas translate into reality.
-
Completed the construction of the
Lauderhill Aquatics Center and plans are
being developed for the Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony.
• Completed the Lauderhill Cultural Museum at
Wally Elfers’ Park, we can anticipate the Ribbon
Cutting Ceremony soon.
-
Partnered with YMCA to implement and support
the creation of “Teen City” at Lauderhill Middle
School.
During the New Year, a major thrust will be
committed to the construction of the Lauderhill
Performing Arts Center and Library, which will
complement our City’s efforts of becoming a
destination for the Arts.
I hope you will continue to enjoy the New Year and I wish for you and yours the
best during
2012.
Until next time, STAY WELL!!
