The City provides employees with opportunities for certifications, skill development, and the ability to obtain a college degree.
The City has a unique program available to all General employees called the Achievement Program. This program specifies certain educational requirements, skills achievement, equipment operation capability, certification achievement, and license achievement important to the performance of the employee's job. In addition, the completion of the Achievement Program assists in cross training employees and preparing them for promotions or other opportunities within the City.
The Compensation and Benefits function of the department covers the administration of the health, dental, life and STD (short term disability) insurance for City employees. The City presently uses Humana for medical insurance, Cigna for Dental insurance, Unum for short-term disability, Highmark Life for Life and AD&D Insurance, and KCI for the Section 125 Flexible Benefit plan. We provide a wide array of benefits for our employees. We also provide an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Merit Behavioral Group. This EAP provides mental health services to our employees at a minimal cost and in a strictly confidential manner. Employees may use this program for any type of mental health concern. Assistance can be provided for problems ranging from stress management to problems with smoking cessation. |
