| More Ways You Can Make a Difference |
 |
Water the lawns only when
they need it following South Florida Water Management and
City of Lauderhill requirements. |
 |
Start a recycling program at
home and at work. |
 |
Add additional Insulation
and seal air leaks in your house. |
 |
Replace appliances with
those with an Energy Star label, and replace your A/C with
one more than 16 SEERs. |
 |
Replace your 5-7 gallon
toilet, with a toilet using 1 ½ to 3 gallons, and install a
rain gauge on your sprinkler system. |
 |
During the summer, set your
thermostat no lower than 78 degrees. During the winter, set
your thermostat no higher than 68 degrees during the day and
58 at night. Use a programmable thermostat to decrease
electrical consumption when no one is home. |
 |
Wash only full loads of
dishes and clothes. |
 |
Use a power strip and shut
off televisions, DVD’s, VCR’s, computers, monitors and
appliances off when not in use. |

driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes
gasoline, and increases the chance of an accident. |

Rehabilitate rather than
build new. Old buildings contain an enormous amount of
embodied energy. That is energy that was expended at the
time that they were originally built. The retention and
reuse of older and historic buildings preserves the
materials, energy, and human capital already expended in
their construction. |
 |
Comply with Lauderhill's
irrigation and lighting ordinances to conserve water,
electricity, and reduce lighting pollution. |
