OIC of South Florida:

The City of Lauderhill and OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL), a nonprofit workforce development organization, partnered to offer FREE Career Readiness Workshops to Lauderhill residents.  As a member of the Prosperity Broward initiative, OIC-SFL is humbled and honored to be “on the move” in economically distressed communities to offer its residents soft-skill trainings to increase their marketability in today’s workforce. The workshops covered various topics such as resume building, networking to find your next job opportunity, and identifying your ideal career path.

One of the workshops held in November hosted students from the Junior Achievement Program at Lauderhill 6-12 Stem -Med Magnet School. The students were matched with ideal jobs based on their interests through a career assessment, learned about teamwork, as well as participated in acting out real life workplace situations. Fifteen (15) students were given a small taste of what it takes to make it in today’s labor market.

The Empowerment Series:

The Empowerment Series is an exciting and dynamic series of seminars geared towards educating and inspiring the youth in Lauderhill. These classes serve as a way of motivating the youth to achieve personal growth by developing the necessary skills, attitudes, and mind sets to succeed and thrive in life. Our recent series “Living My Best Life” took students through four seminars that taught them leadership strategies, business etiquette, resume writing, interview skills, personal responsibility, and financial literacy. These classes were led by none other than motivational speaker and self-proclaimed “Edutainer”, Mr. Hardge, whose unique and unconventional style of teaching creates an entertaining yet educational experience for his audience.

With classes averaging between 20-25 students a session, the City is working hard to cultivate the minds of the youth in order to grow and develop professionals and leaders for the future. The City has expanded its Empowerment Series within the last two years from local Community Centers to schools like Park Way and Boyd Anderson. As the Empowerment Series continues to grow and expand to other schools, we will see a bigger change in our communities.

Home Ownership:

The Lauderhill Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) opens the gates to provide residents of Lauderhill the dream opportunity of homeownership!  Through its infill housing program, ten (10) prospective homebuyers will be selected from the CRA’s upcoming lottery scheduled to begin February 10^th through February 29^th, 2020.  The Agency will hold a meeting on March 9^th, 2020 where the fortunate prospects will be randomly selected from the pool of eligible lottery entries (lottery participants are encouraged to attend, but not required). Business

Commercial Façade Grant Program:

The City of Lauderhill's Commercial Façade Grant (CFG) Program is designed to enhance the State Road 7 Corridor especially in the vicinity of the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, by providing façade grants to business and commercial property owners per 24 CFR 570.202(a)(3), "rehabilitation of privately owned and commercial or industrial buildings is limited to improvements to the exterior of the building and correction of code violations" Furthermore, the City requires that improvements be limited to improvements that are visible from the commercial corridor. The City of Lauderhill will not approve nor pay for a commercial façade or code compliance project which is not attached to and part of a building structure.

To be eligible to apply for the Commercial Façade Grant (CFG) Program you must be a property owner within the State Road 7 Community Redevelopment Agency boundaries of the City of Lauderhill and visible from the commercial corridor. In order for your property to be eligible, your building must contain businesses that have commercial activity as their primary purpose, including but not limited to traditional retail and specialty shops, services, restaurants and bars, cultural venues, professional offices and commercial retail centers. Mixed‐use buildings are also eligible as long as the first story of such buildings is predominantly used for commercial activity. In addition, manufacturing companies are eligible to apply if they are an allowed and permitted use in their zoning district or if they have been approved for a special exception use. Owners of vacant buildings are eligible to apply with proof of tenant agreements and/or proof that the property can be occupied as defined by the code ordinance.
