  • Am required to maintain trees in my swale?

    Yes.
  • Can I plant a tree in my swale?

    No, the City no longer allows planting trees in a swale.
  • Can I plant a tree on my canal embankment?

    No, you are only allowed to plant a tree within your property boundary.
  • Can someone look at my tree? I think it is sick.

    Email Planning & Zoning pictures of tree for our Consultant Arborist to review. If a determination cannot be attained, then an appointment would be made with Consultant Arborist & property owner for on site inspection.
  • I want to cut my tree down. Can I?

    A tree removal permit will be required prior to removal if approved (download application).  For information about the process for tree permits, the submittal requirements and replacement tree list, download the Tree Permit Information.
  • If I cut my tree down, do I need to replace it?

    Yes. Or if not possible, you can pay into tree preservation fund. Total cost is determined once inspection is completed and report is received from Consultant Arborist.

  • If I have a tree in on a canal embankment, who should maintain it?

    The Public Works Department maintains trees on canal embankments.

  • If I remove my tree, do I have to replace them with other trees?

    Yes, but replacement trees must be from City's approved tree recommended canopy replacement list (download application and information).

  • My tree looks like its dying. What should I do?

    Please Email Planning & Zoning pictures of dying tree for initial review.
  • Who maintains the grass and areas on water/canal banks?

    All swale and water bank areas within the corporate limits of the City of Lauderhill shall be maintained, kept in good repair and free from obstructions which may be hazardous to the welfare of the general public and further must be maintained by contiguous property owner.

    All property owners whose property abuts a drainage canal within the City of Lauderhill shall be required to remove all trees, shrubs, bushes, structures, docks, fences and/or any other obstruction which interfere with right-of-way access to the water's edge or the maintenance of the canal property.

  • Will the City pay for my tree removal?

    No, the City will not pay for a home owner’s tree removal.
