Empowered Voices Scholarship - Celebrating Civic Literacy and Artistic Expression
Presented by the City of Lauderhill MLK Taskforce
The Empowered Voices Scholarship celebrates the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement by inviting high school seniors to express its impact through creative mediums like spoken word, dance, or art. This scholarship offers an opportunity to win funds of up to $1,000, supporting students pursuing education in Police Academy, Fire Department Academy, Technical Schools, Trade Schools, Community Colleges, or 4-year Universities.
To apply, create a 2-minute video sharing your thoughts by January 21st, 2024. Winners will be notified by January 26th, and the awards will be presented on February 12th, 2024. This scholarship recognizes the importance of civic awareness and artistic expression in shaping future leaders. Apply now!
Scholarship Information
How did the Civil Rights Movement affect you or the world today?
Express your thoughts on the profound impact of the Civil Rights movement in a unique way! Submit a 2-minute (max) video using your chosen artistic medium - be it spoken word, singing, dance, painting, rap, or any creative outlet!
Scholarship Amounts
1st Place: $1,000
2nd Place: $500
3rd Place: $500
4th Place: $500
5th Place: $500
Eligibility Criteria
• Must be a Lauderhill Resident
• Must be a High School Senior
• Must have plans to attend a post-secondary institution*
* Eligible institutions include Technical School, College/University, and a Law Enforcement or Fire Academy.
Submission Deadline:
Sunday, January 21st, 2024 (midnight)
Winners Notified:
Friday, January 26th, 2024
Awards Presentation:
Monday, February 12th, 2024
